COURSE 4 : Use different ways to reach objects you're looking for


Once you and your colleagues have created several Objects like Users, Parts and Documents, you will need to find them out quickly, efficiently, straight forward. You also need to keep be informed of what others do.

You will learn how to search, browse, navigate and find out Objects.


  1. You should be looged in with a valid user who have "Contributor" rights. See TutoGroupsandUsers for User creation.
  2. You should have several objects already created in your OpenPLM server. See TutoParts for Part creation and TutoDocuments for Document creation.

Search engine

1. In the home page, click on "Search" button :
2. Quick search giving just a reference number :
3. Search using words :
4. Refine previous Search specifying the Type of Object :
5. Refine again previous Search specifying the State of Object :
6. Advanced Search specifying the ownership :
7. Advanced Search specifying the state (similar to 5.) :
8. Advanced Search specifying the attribute the words should be in :
9. OpenPLM is also a plain text Search :
10. Complex Search excluding words (with a NOT) :
11. Complex Search including several criteria (with a OR) :


1. In the home page, click on "Browse" button :
2. Filter only Parts, Part-Top Assemblies (i.e. with no Parent), Documents, Groups, Users :
3. Sort by Date of creation, by Name, displaying first largest assemblies, displaying first those which are in lot of assemblies :
4. Filter by the State of the objects :
5. Filter by Subtype (if any) :
6. Sort by Date of creation or Date of modification :

On the top of the active area, you can see the navigation history i.e. all Objects you visited just before. Keeping the mouse on one Object, you have access to its tabs :


On a daily bases, the Timeline displays all events related to all objects you can access to.

(1) Access to the Timeline

(2) Display in Calendar mode (the calendrier application must be installed)

(3) Displayed period

(4) Go to previous period

(5) Go to next period

(6) Display events related to Documents

(7) Display events related to Parts

(8) Display events related to Groups

(9) Starting date for displayed period

(10) Period length (in days)

(11) Filter event by their author (you must enter a username)

My Objects

1. In the home page, click on your profile (top of the window) :
2. In the "PART-DOC-CAD" tab, you have access to all objects you recently edited, you own, ... :
  1. You can also search for objects you own with this query: owner=my_username. For example owner=stemplar AND toto returns only objects owned by stemplar that contain toto.
